Been busy with jobs and other bits and bobs, things are still going on with the capri, the engine is now stripped and so is the interior! And yes, I will sit down one day soon, and write about it all! But for the moment, I found this to keep you all quiet!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Its the Capri the day I bought it! Just a quick start up and walk around. Sounds not too bad considering the condition of the engine! But lets not spoil the surprise for the engine strip down blog ;)</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Ta for now!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Thats the ideal picture. Nice afternoon, bit of tinkering on the car?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Removing the engine isn't actually all that hard, im pretty certain now that as a child I was dropped from some height, onto a substantially hard floor...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">... and even I could do it!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Its very methodical, but its easy if you work methodically, and don't go bat***t crazy like I normally do... anyway! Without further ado! </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEighAX04XJLcXgjObshBMYiH0CjXYLIqEWj1Z0fHCw_G3zENV6-ib_459iYBoqrTkJgxhuCbC71UAdq9L4___C_nzO0YgJQS2emTthwS-rP_ZCEHQ713wl8p4e3vdP6Wxo-NR_-HinkeWE/s1600/SNV30001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEighAX04XJLcXgjObshBMYiH0CjXYLIqEWj1Z0fHCw_G3zENV6-ib_459iYBoqrTkJgxhuCbC71UAdq9L4___C_nzO0YgJQS2emTthwS-rP_ZCEHQ713wl8p4e3vdP6Wxo-NR_-HinkeWE/s640/SNV30001.JPG" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Put the car on flat ground, smooth preferably, this will save you loads of effort! Also make sure that there is enough room above the engine bay to lift out the engine. For me I had to roll the car out the front of the garage to make sure there was enough!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Remove the battery.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The bonnet needs to come off to allow the crane in, so thats the first thing to go, its not all that hard, and with a friend comes off pretty easy! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">First locate the bolts that hold the bonnet onto the bracket, and mark them off, there is a small amount of adjustment that can be made on this bracket, and chances are the person that put the bonnet on is less of an invalid than you, so you want to put it on as those zany Germans did all those years ago...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Simply remove the bolts and the bracket retainer on the back, KEEP THESE SAFE! At this point it might be worth hacking up some boxes and labelling everything where it came from. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Once the bonnet is off, place it somewhere safe like on an off-cut of carpet. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Yes, mine is rusted to bits, and I am not sure what to do with it yet...but lets leave that for another blog?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Best thing to do now is work logically, start stripping the engine of its connections and various. I started with the electrics, as the pinto engine is basically a four wire connection! - alternator, two to distributer and one earth wire. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOIVIalycVQNNqEwkTl488SLefHyrf6uzMy_zAOY9aW1Er1_fhBnp9YOiimZBR1n8gjVje_cSlPRUpu31rC6yLnnmdwHuCizr_5xxB25CtD6Qe5CMYe2WkRGzDleMVuitXEZnOdFdX14A/s1600/SNV30008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOIVIalycVQNNqEwkTl488SLefHyrf6uzMy_zAOY9aW1Er1_fhBnp9YOiimZBR1n8gjVje_cSlPRUpu31rC6yLnnmdwHuCizr_5xxB25CtD6Qe5CMYe2WkRGzDleMVuitXEZnOdFdX14A/s640/SNV30008.JPG" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Now I have electronic ignition, so how similar this is if you are still living in the 1950's with points and condenser units I do not know. But the two wires of the dizzy can be removed, one is a spade connector, and the other (earth) runs into the car's loom, so I decided to label this:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7FaqnSGiuGIeEQyWMuUbQWnHbD6aRIY-dnPpZOYdCF2edIUw79o7HR1ukemino0SgWN7J0Vh0oRTNeQYS34D47NZ9gj9ZpoHZDB8JbKiJVHLhBuv1pXY8ilt-YyMkoRrhc4rg57o9Hxw/s1600/SNV30012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7FaqnSGiuGIeEQyWMuUbQWnHbD6aRIY-dnPpZOYdCF2edIUw79o7HR1ukemino0SgWN7J0Vh0oRTNeQYS34D47NZ9gj9ZpoHZDB8JbKiJVHLhBuv1pXY8ilt-YyMkoRrhc4rg57o9Hxw/s640/SNV30012.JPG" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> After that continue round the engine bay removing more and more wires, if you are lucky enough to own an electric choke, that will have its own nest of wires. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWgnnn3yMRmNr2cV2DuD83Pj7zasNemjgj4mpBzPwoF8vok2pz6aDFmAYcjTft41usIDI2CeOx1xIAqHONyOQKZ9_wVv6uILX-3Y0u9WfO3Ss_jw9SkbQYBwlWqOpyL5AsV7r43msZk30/s1600/SNV30019.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWgnnn3yMRmNr2cV2DuD83Pj7zasNemjgj4mpBzPwoF8vok2pz6aDFmAYcjTft41usIDI2CeOx1xIAqHONyOQKZ9_wVv6uILX-3Y0u9WfO3Ss_jw9SkbQYBwlWqOpyL5AsV7r43msZk30/s640/SNV30019.JPG" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Gloves are a great idea when working with metal all the time/ I was being wussy and was really feggin cold. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Next step, coolant system,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Its best to remove the radiator from the car because its so fragile that if you bump it when removing the engine, chances are it will be toast. Its not too hard, undo the jubilee clip on the bottom hose and pull hard. This will be followed by a stratifying "sploof" noise followed by an arm-full of rusty old manky coolant. Place a tub underneath the car if you have any mild interest in not ruining your garage, and aim to get about 3 or 4% of the coolant content in the bucket. Any more than this and you are on to a winner because IT GOES EVERYWHERE.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Of course you may have a drain plug on your radiator! use this if you do!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7LAC9bGNP6d3dtcYflK64LQf460Metm-0tj2hePli0tolQegp36xMywA3qxna4zWSBq_BcEywNCHq5zL-2pnhtavqzRb0jO8C20bpy6JdjkmOvVefB6Ag42vDgUPK9sVOj_THJd-Mg6Y/s1600/SNV30007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7LAC9bGNP6d3dtcYflK64LQf460Metm-0tj2hePli0tolQegp36xMywA3qxna4zWSBq_BcEywNCHq5zL-2pnhtavqzRb0jO8C20bpy6JdjkmOvVefB6Ag42vDgUPK9sVOj_THJd-Mg6Y/s640/SNV30007.JPG" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Remove the radiator using the surrounding bolts and remove the rest of the coolant pipes to the carburettor and the ones into the firewall to the heater matrix.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Fuel pipes are the next to come off, this is an easy unclip of the pipe to the mechanical fuel pump on the side of the engine.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A WORD TO THE WISE!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Top the tank up before you started restoration did you? You tit.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">With a full tank or the car tilted forwards fuel runs out the pipe naturally which runs along the chassis rail. Luckily with every day driving I keep about 3 or 4 litres in the tank, so it didn't **** out everywhere, but did dribble out, and with the going rate of unleaded rivalling single malt whiskey a bolt shoved down the pipe as a plug worked a treat. A professional would drain the tank and keep the fuel in a correct container. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Im not a professional. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr2lN8T50026j3A92PAenCRtUi4WCtoizl79KpAibh0LtrY9Ot5Ua0I8leaXC1go_00rcXhFafyU7GWuzGPI2aH79mFs_2wHB9ju6PvBhYvCvGwSvupzEjIr9SXrw1Mn21zNd7z6ecB30/s1600/SNV30016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr2lN8T50026j3A92PAenCRtUi4WCtoizl79KpAibh0LtrY9Ot5Ua0I8leaXC1go_00rcXhFafyU7GWuzGPI2aH79mFs_2wHB9ju6PvBhYvCvGwSvupzEjIr9SXrw1Mn21zNd7z6ecB30/s640/SNV30016.JPG" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Physical connections....</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Everything that is not coming out now has to be disconnected, we have already done coolant pipes, fuel pipes and electrical wiring, so now its time for cables, bolts and shafts. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">If you start at the top of the engine and work down you are much less likely to miss anything, and try removing the engine with some bolts still attached...I would never have dreamt of doing this... </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Remove the throttle cable from the carburettor, I found removing the entire assembly was easier than faffing with the cable itself. It also means no adjustment is needed when reconnecting!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Exhaust manifold, this does need to be removed, but whether or not you want to take off the intake manifold is entirely up to you. I didn't because I am lazy and its a pointless thing to do as I am stripping the engine down on a bench anyway.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">You can see at the bottom of the above picture the exhaust is disconnected and moved away from the block, there should be just enough give in the pipe to move it away without taking the header off the exhaust pipe as there was in mine. However I have a performance 4-1 exhaust, the original part may not give such a luxury! Make a note of the bolts and keep them safe.</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">If the car isn't on jack stands anymore it makes the removal slightly easier as the crane doesn't have to reach as high. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Strap the engine up to the crane with a suitable means, I used a tow rope and shackles. Old seat-belts are suitable, just don't use regular rope, thin chain, spaghetti..</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Take the weight just ever so slightly from the engine, so you know it won't all slump onto the gearbox when you remove the engine mounts...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Next step! Remove the gearbox bolts. Go around the bell housing and remove every single one. Yes even that little one. Which I didn't and then wondered why the engine wouldn't come out...</span><br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">With the engine out you can see the bolts all around the bell housing. Bottom left is where the clutch cable goes through the bell housing, you will need to remove this too, by disconnecting the clutch cable from the fork. You will need to remove the little rubber grommet, which will have welded itself in shape. Swearing is basically mandatory at this moment. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Chop up some blocks and place a trolly underneath the gearbox to support it. The engine holds alot of the gearbox weight, so this is a very necessary step unless you want to do horrible things to your propshaft! </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> These can be seen in the above picture. I found it easier to unbolt the bracket as this means the engine can lift vertically up rather than having to worm it through odd angles. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">After this pull the engine forwards towards you to pull it off the gearbox splines...the engine should now be free to winch up!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Its not really a problem, but it does show a potential flaw I had with the car which was dieseling (engine run on) with the engine switched off. <span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Its obvious that cylinder two and three are burning oil, which is probably due to nackered valve guides. Which control the oil from the head down the valve stem. But the fact that the two cylinders are next to each other worries me... </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Every cylinder is carbon..ed up due to 140k miles and no love. So a good strip down and clean will probably do wonders on its own!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Anyway! The engine strip down is for another time! Next blog is how to replace a panel part. A crash course. </span><br />

And the door!<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Well I finally decided to catch up with this blog! Quite a few things have been done now and hopefully over the next week I will get them all published up here. To let you know what you are in for...</span><br />

<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And of course the wing removal iteself. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So here we go!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: orange; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: large;"><u><b>PART II OF HOW TO REMOVE A FORD CAPRI WING - AND THE PASSENGER DOOR!</b></u></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">(continuing from the previous post)</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Step 11,</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">By now you wife and kids should have left you, possibly taking the car with them as equity. If this has happened im afraid the road ahead for you is over. Try <a href="http://www.match.com/">www.match.com</a>, get a new family, buy a new Capri, realise the wings on that one too are shot, and repeat step 1. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Step 12, As the front of the wing is now disconnected, you only have the back to do, but in order to do this, I'm afraid the door is going to have to come off. Its a pretty easy job, more so on the passengers side, the drivers side is a little more difficult and will be explained in a separate blog about dash removal. </span></div>

<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This picture should fill you full of confidence! I can do it! So can you!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Sit in the car with the door as wide open as it will go, unwind the window fully (this helps with lifting the door later) and grab a friend to lend you a hand. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I will tell you this now THE DOOR IS HEAVY. Not horribly so, but heavier than you think if you have never picked on up before!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Step 13,</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Whilst sat in the car locate the mounting bolts and pins. This picture shows the drivers side, because I forgot to take any pictures until after I removed the door. DOH!</span></div>

And yes, my dash is held up with some wood. This was not my doing! :S</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As you can see the plastic poppers are located near the door seal, so remove a little of the door seal and the plate pops off and slides out. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Step 14,</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Remove the electrical connections and the waterproof boot. On mine the only connection was the speaker wire, so a pair of wire snips made short work of it! </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Once that plate is removed you should see this.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Sorry about the picture size but it helps to understand it! The bolts can be accessed then, three at the top and three at the bottom. The middle pin can be removed with the cir-clip (have I spelt that right?) at the bottom and then just punching it out with a screwdriver. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Make sure someone is holding the door as you undo them!</span></div>
<div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Easy ay? A quick clean up is also a good idea to keep rust at bay, catching it early makes it dead easy, and will save you hours of problems later down the line, its also a good idea to have a quick look under the carpets. My floor is pretty solid (thank god!) but the plugs are not so good, im going to replace them pretty quick. I don't like wet feet!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Step 15,</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Again this photo needs rotating, but you get the idea! You can see the spot welds as the wing connects to the A frame, drill these out and then using a hammer and a chisel follow the seam up!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As can be seen here:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Step 16,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Before you let that wing come off, remove the indicators and the ariel!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG0-nMIxtzpvD5c9MTUpOzElCrUwrPMtR8jNWn8U3K-_kGpzHzcvJHoF3uajCxaKYzPwiw9Rco2bN39fnbMB7XOtqaWwWQlP0jXkmYOQJpRY_fki9gIyO9SLWhuVypLIuc-kBwDjPCuuc/s1600/SNV30041.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG0-nMIxtzpvD5c9MTUpOzElCrUwrPMtR8jNWn8U3K-_kGpzHzcvJHoF3uajCxaKYzPwiw9Rco2bN39fnbMB7XOtqaWwWQlP0jXkmYOQJpRY_fki9gIyO9SLWhuVypLIuc-kBwDjPCuuc/s400/SNV30041.JPG" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Step 17,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Continue to pull/ drill the wing off until the whole thing becomes a bit wobbly! You should be able to start seeing more and more light through the panel gaps!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEfiBhyhxM01d-Tf1GfS9QM5ybSoBsqNUoql1LRRf5QxzI-yFCsfhiylZ82RtLgq0cBJN5w6lJTe0TQfIvNd7Gav-0Tx-N8DUuiAdVebsU-eTg9d-QKDOPu_UXF16AAnQXlq2YlFPAz8I/s1600/SNV30050.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEfiBhyhxM01d-Tf1GfS9QM5ybSoBsqNUoql1LRRf5QxzI-yFCsfhiylZ82RtLgq0cBJN5w6lJTe0TQfIvNd7Gav-0Tx-N8DUuiAdVebsU-eTg9d-QKDOPu_UXF16AAnQXlq2YlFPAz8I/s640/SNV30050.JPG" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Step 18,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Head under the car and take the final few spots off, get a friend to grab the wing as slicing you in half will seriously hamper your day. </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2ueYlfX28eA3uSzpiB6wtCbUSZxuBK0ea_rcrGkrxe2a9cSNyqgYp2IQNtT8OWOEFGFASRkNlmo0t7x2PHUV9K9tUYoe6ziFMvtqRaRwVoqHXqhtAVwX39MqrmzLmxwbAmuvDa8S5YPI/s1600/SNV30048.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2ueYlfX28eA3uSzpiB6wtCbUSZxuBK0ea_rcrGkrxe2a9cSNyqgYp2IQNtT8OWOEFGFASRkNlmo0t7x2PHUV9K9tUYoe6ziFMvtqRaRwVoqHXqhtAVwX39MqrmzLmxwbAmuvDa8S5YPI/s640/SNV30048.JPG" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Step 19, </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Don't be afraid to use that old chisel! Pull apart the sandwiches of metal and it becomes much easier to do this as the wing becomes disconnected and less stable!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjgpMIyo2KOCDh9CIXdV6McYC_Ju5k3yRBggAIO549V9rlUm7rKPiSpIm49aFdR2QxN5Ltsnme5LXd0A3PNUzlRvvWj9OI3E7yBXH_1MduKzIfku8n7r8Ifnc_x3M-deBboE8C7-5DBdQ/s1600/SNV30051.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjgpMIyo2KOCDh9CIXdV6McYC_Ju5k3yRBggAIO549V9rlUm7rKPiSpIm49aFdR2QxN5Ltsnme5LXd0A3PNUzlRvvWj9OI3E7yBXH_1MduKzIfku8n7r8Ifnc_x3M-deBboE8C7-5DBdQ/s640/SNV30051.JPG" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The body has been filled with seam sealer and other bits of rubbish from the ford factory, and bodge DIY repairs, so if something is stuck, see if a screwdriver will go through it! A hard pull got these two apart!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Step 20,</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_ss_kBv6b-16CMqdPHnYg0dV9HFMfkMj8PGZ0fF6S6vyvzkgQQoLaQpNjHXmLMLQU5ztUcdX5psEHlvWwGjRtrbtocmOL1LweI2Uygt9dXrEjvjbKrmxQfgUkRGDyYYEbIiJP-JGhp1Q/s1600/SNV30053.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_ss_kBv6b-16CMqdPHnYg0dV9HFMfkMj8PGZ0fF6S6vyvzkgQQoLaQpNjHXmLMLQU5ztUcdX5psEHlvWwGjRtrbtocmOL1LweI2Uygt9dXrEjvjbKrmxQfgUkRGDyYYEbIiJP-JGhp1Q/s640/SNV30053.JPG" width="640" /></span></a></div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Off comes the wing! Its inspection time now, have a good look and see what needs doing, keep rust at bay and give everything a good clean to get the road much off and all the salt. </span><br />

Its been a while...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Earlier this month, I ran out of money. I don't mean, I had only a little left, I meant, a stone cold broke zilch. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Oh dear.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Anyway! Its now the end of the month and things are starting to happen again! So let me fill you in....</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The wings on the Capri, and indeed any Capri, were rusted, but not so badly that they needed to be thrown away, I think they are salvageable. But they still have to come off, and this means doing it without destroying the wing in the process. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Balls. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">When I have read up on wing replacement, everyone just said to cut off as much metal as possible and slap on a new one! Well that isn't possible here..because I am keeping the wing!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So here we are, the<span style="color: orange; font-size: large;"><b> F<u>irst 10 steps into how to remove a wing.</u></b></span></span><br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Step One...</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> Sit down and consider buying a new car. Whilst crying. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Step Two...</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Realise you are actually a lot mainlier than everyone thinks, and compensate by buying £150 worth of new tools. I satisfied this with a new compressor and a cut off tool! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM6bcGOqAaKDPWxH6YJkH41ofsiw9vLFU9SOvy3-w4WI4mK0FEYebm2FBwOKoj_RpRRbY6m-D9TNYDDSsQMthke4TkR-83FKVNEx8518Pd7swwt8jWaHok97IENJvo9Oi8eY2A6VHtBME/s1600/SNV30025.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhM6bcGOqAaKDPWxH6YJkH41ofsiw9vLFU9SOvy3-w4WI4mK0FEYebm2FBwOKoj_RpRRbY6m-D9TNYDDSsQMthke4TkR-83FKVNEx8518Pd7swwt8jWaHok97IENJvo9Oi8eY2A6VHtBME/s640/SNV30025.JPG" width="640" /></span></a><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Look at it! Its red and everything! Nothing says matcho amateur mechanic like your shiny red tool. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Truth be told, this is actually a very handy devise, its not quite as vicious as a conventional angle grinder, and the right angled blade is very practical! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Step Three...</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Right, put on your strong pants and have a cup of bovil ready, the next step is horrible if you have never butche....err...restored... your Capri before. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

Apon which the wing would pleasantly plop off and we would all go inside the warm house for tea and medals. As is seen in this picture >>> </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My drip rail was made of dust. I don't know what was actually holding on the top part of the wing but it can't of been too far from magic. Cut it off if you have the same problem as me. Its actually quite enjoyable when you get past the initial terror of purposely destroying your own car! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">HOWEVER. If you do do this, cover the windscreen with something suitably tough, as the spray from the angle grinder will happily haze up you windscreen. As I did with mine. Lucky I am having to replace it then ay!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Step 4...</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Stand back and admire your shocking handywork. If you have done it correctly, the cut should be cock eyed and wonky. Preferably you should also be bleeding. If not repeat step 3. If your cutting is as sketchy as mine, go over the seam with a metal grinding disk, and take back any edges to flush metal. Giving it a cheeky spray of WD 40 will also stop rust from forming if you are leaving it unpainted for a week or so. Any more a coat of primer wouldn't go amiss.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Step 5...</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">After cutting the seam off, try to prise the wing away from the inner wing as much as you can, a chisel and a hammer work magic here. As you can see the front part of my inner wing is dust anyway, so this came away with relative ease! Rust for once was a help! But it does mean I have to replace the front section of the wing in due course....</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Step 6...</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Chase the seam around the headlight bowls, some cutting may be needed here as this is where rust usually holds the wing on rather than any mechanical means! If you are re-using the wing as I am, I suggest you re-weld on a new drip rail to the inner wing, and then weld on outer wing supports. Push the wing so that the panel gap between the bonnet and wing are correct again, and mark on the inner wing with paint of tip ex (if you don't have a white capri!) where the two meet up so that when you put the wing back on, finding the correct fitment position won't be a pain in the arse! This will be included in the next part called "10 MORE STEPS TO REMOVE AND RESTORE A WING!'</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">If you continue to follow the seam around you will work your way into the headlight bowl surround. As seen again on mine, this is just rust (can anyone else see the re-occouring theme here?) so a quick grind and the thing came off.</span></div>

<br />
<br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Again in an ideal world you would drill out the spot welds and the tab would unpop. If you can see the tab in the above picture you are a better person than me. Because its vanished in a pile or corrosion!</span><br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Swear. A lot. Or beast your children if you have them. You should have no knuckles if you have managed to get the bolts off. Less skin = Job well done. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Step 9...</span></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Plan. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">If like me you are going to be putting the wing back on after refurbishment, then leave reference marks everywhere so that the panel will fit back on a dream (in theory!) without having to bash it into shape. Take your time when removing the wing, its not a race, and you will find it will come off quicker if you are not in a rush. I am lucky in having two cars, so when I get fed up with the capri I can go inside and still make it to work in the morning! If you do not have this luxury...get back in the garage. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Step 10...</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I don't have a 10th. Apparently I overstepped myself looking for a catchy title. I suppose you could use this step to clean the garage? Or play with the cat? </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In the next instalment I will go over removing the back of the wing. I will post a link to that in this blog when I have written it. </span></div>

However, firstly, here is load of photos of the car and how it got to its current state.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXalGr1Qu6TBZEztAOnMBtXQEMb0n9eYddiHY9Up9zjuhIW77A-MHYmUXu6G55QRiJZ2odDpMFyihl_VDMKox_sfjN6v0n1ySuOEo-hjuPr4Km3NmnfBo0zIGUL10z1w9Or3jvDP-2Vbc/s1600/IMG_1785.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXalGr1Qu6TBZEztAOnMBtXQEMb0n9eYddiHY9Up9zjuhIW77A-MHYmUXu6G55QRiJZ2odDpMFyihl_VDMKox_sfjN6v0n1ySuOEo-hjuPr4Km3NmnfBo0zIGUL10z1w9Or3jvDP-2Vbc/s320/IMG_1785.JPG" width="240" /></span></a><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The camping trip had a bit of a nasty effect on the Capri, and on the way home I was stuck in some traffic, watching the temperature needle creep slowly up, a bird released all mother of its bowels onto the windscreen. On turning on the windscreen washers I managed to get the majority of what should remain inside a bird off the windscreen before hearing a muffled "Sploof" from under the bonnet.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGnKLiSt1Xmmn_aS4RIPVig7gebzfveG_URm2hzZEsOEHg_zAibrj9ICaQO05t5EBAQb9nmyz-IjMDGaHQlTIOHrrr227kA1xwMn2oYdSPnI7MeCsG8W0HJC96LYckojVNQNKW9imhk6s/s1600/IMG_1786.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGnKLiSt1Xmmn_aS4RIPVig7gebzfveG_URm2hzZEsOEHg_zAibrj9ICaQO05t5EBAQb9nmyz-IjMDGaHQlTIOHrrr227kA1xwMn2oYdSPnI7MeCsG8W0HJC96LYckojVNQNKW9imhk6s/s320/IMG_1786.JPG" width="240" /></span></a><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Nothing serious! But the 25 year old rubber water hose had popped off the junction to the sprayers, simply solved with a cable tie round each end of the hose to make sure it doesn't happen again!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The temperature problem is a simple fix that will be sorted with the engine overhaul. The radiator is new, and all the hoses, pumps and thermostats work as they should, on the move it is fine! But the viscous fan has had it, I will either replace the coupling or more than likely replace it with an electric fan in front of the radiator which will provide piece of mind in traffic jams and also free up a little space in front of the engine. </span><br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifoawf1heihsGFQvO4QegpdFxHS4gEz-34SbclPxZSNicdhccSCrWHD_RjgY80R8aiCPAYRpFWcNC0kx-x3lNpXo15VAf3sQg1ldeWC5afd8Isj2pcVVd5UOjWcJU3mYJ8JZ4qCmUtFzI/s1600/IMG_1789.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifoawf1heihsGFQvO4QegpdFxHS4gEz-34SbclPxZSNicdhccSCrWHD_RjgY80R8aiCPAYRpFWcNC0kx-x3lNpXo15VAf3sQg1ldeWC5afd8Isj2pcVVd5UOjWcJU3mYJ8JZ4qCmUtFzI/s320/IMG_1789.JPG" width="240" /></span></a><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Finally the last problem I had on the trip was the weather, which was glorious! So the windows and sunroof were open as wide as they could go! Unfortunately the rust on the sunroof wouldn't let the thing close....with force it did! But made a nice cut line down to bare metal...great! So a quick spray of white undercoat to keep rust away was sprayed on and a mental note to not open it fully until mended!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Whilst driving it around I did notice that the engine was a bit rough running. Starting was problematic with a few long turns of the starter to get it going as well as it being almost impossible to start when hot! Followed by dieseling (engine run on) when the ignition was switched off. After joining the ford Capri laser forum (<a href="http://www.fordcaprilaser.co.uk/">http://www.fordcaprilaser.co.uk/</a> - a must if you own a Capri!) I was told to give the car a thorough service, time it and clean and set the carb up properly. I ripped apart the carb, being careful not to drop and screws down the throat! I cleaned it up with kerosene and mineral spirits and it all came up beautiful. I am lucky enough to own a sonic cleaner, which on little intricate parts such as that in the carb was perfect, see the following pictures for the before and after!</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Horrible right? The two plates on the right are the choke flaps, which were sticky and black, a tarry like substance which was a mix of burnt on petrol and oil. When the car diesels it sends up a haze of petrol vapour into the carburettor and sticking to all metal surfaces. Nice. The rest of the carburettor that was too big to fit in the cleaner was given a good scrub. When I pull the engine I will renew all the gaskets and probably the thermostat on the automatic choke, which is a little sticky. </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This next picture may just seem like a receipt, but notice how much it all cost! The oil in the Capri as well as the filter had been changed about a week before I purchased the car, and to look at the oil and the filter, they look both new, so im willing to accept it! It will do until I sort the engine anyway! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My little shopping spree should have cost about 45 quid, but came to £16.71 thanks to a bloke (who is my hero and shall remain unnamed!) putting it all on his halford discount card. Top lad!</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The spark plugs! Look at them! Crusty horrible things that the ceramic had turned to dust on! Small wonder the car was running so bad! One of them was even cracked and came apart when removed! They are so old they are using the old Champion ID numbers! They are easily 10-12 years old! They came out....eventually with a pry bar...and new ones went in! This helped the running enormously! </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> After the service I never had a hitch with the Capri, it started up fine, ran great and the dieseiling had minimised. The fuel economy per tank increased about 100 miles per tank, and it sounded and pulled great!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">James = very happy chappy. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The next picture shows the start of the restoration, which is going to be done in my sisters garage. She has been a great sport actually, along with her boyfriend Simon, and here is a very shameless plug for her blog - <a href="http://www.laurenlovesblog.co.uk/">http://www.laurenlovesblog.co.uk/</a></span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Its all about fashion and junk, which I suppose doesn't really apply to many of the people on this blog, but if you drive a Capri and like wearing make-up then its a match made in heaven. </span><br />

Which is too narrow to allow the Capri's 3 mile long body into the garage. So we had to edge the nose in and then push the back round using a jack! Fun times!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The car was enough in the garage to be driven in....but the garage doors were blocking the car doors! Simon had to jump in through the window....</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> Here's my next problem.....RUST. Owning a Capri I am told is a game of "which bit to replace first" and every car is the same! If you can find a solid one you are only prolonging the game! This picture shows the bumper bracket, which I am going to have to cut off as the nut and bolt have become one piece! </span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> The car with the front off! Strapped up the bonnet to the roof for a bit of extra security when sanding and working under the bonnet, the long job of grinding off rust starts!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">They were disconnected, but working! I used them a few times by jumping them across the battery terminals. They sounded EPIC. I have taken them off however, and now are a garage toy!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">These are brilliant! If you are taking off rust, this is brilliant! They wear down quite quickly, and cost about 8 quid, but they take everything off, rust, primer, filler, topcoat, the lot! And they also leave the metal underneath perfectly shiny and nice!</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Camping with a Capri.....</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaaq4wZgo9AP4VYhlHjut5GkTlRTJ6DWMXV6_eLrXWVyYWUS-y9cabFknCvFf-Qu54q8fnr3fGOG7IUw8RXE_fW-L14fsGZQ9Y9GN-pX5O9PeUxbqkRNIG5nqaroVY13rpSXE45A5MGUQ/s1600/DSCF1499.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaaq4wZgo9AP4VYhlHjut5GkTlRTJ6DWMXV6_eLrXWVyYWUS-y9cabFknCvFf-Qu54q8fnr3fGOG7IUw8RXE_fW-L14fsGZQ9Y9GN-pX5O9PeUxbqkRNIG5nqaroVY13rpSXE45A5MGUQ/s320/DSCF1499.JPG" width="320" /></span></a></div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have until the end of this month (when the road tax runs out) to use the Capri, and so far have been using it as an every day car so far! Its a fab little motor and I have had no '<i>real'</i> problems with it other than one...</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQjDN55moLTkxRijJ9OWKCBjLV6k3JVu9nOYBpb4Yy_hCpFio5Hf5lhWqSBtD7PVYOOnNGJKrJszkBUWGRP92NgicUE0mubPTGSuoc4C7ig8HSE57FvnyisGoNPDc0ZQVevE2z7HHHTWA/s1600/DSCF1454.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQjDN55moLTkxRijJ9OWKCBjLV6k3JVu9nOYBpb4Yy_hCpFio5Hf5lhWqSBtD7PVYOOnNGJKrJszkBUWGRP92NgicUE0mubPTGSuoc4C7ig8HSE57FvnyisGoNPDc0ZQVevE2z7HHHTWA/s320/DSCF1454.JPG" width="320" /></span></a><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So anyway, I got my best mates together, and proposed a night in the new forest, taking the Capri, a tent, drinks and food. It was a great night! We got there, set up and were drinking by mid-day. By 6pm I was off my face. We had a roaring camp fire and all was going well, we cooked, drank and played poker until the early hours of the morning.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">During which time, our attention turned to the name of the Capri, all my cars have had names, and they are usually based on something funny or predominant about the car (e.g - I had a VW polo called minty). After deciding that she is a low riding, thirsty girl, with 8 previous owners we decided she was a slut, and were looking for slutty girl names. Candice, cindy, etc, etc.....</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">However, eventually it was decided that she is going to be called Michelle. Why's this? </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">She is the Laser edition. And if you haven't seen this scene from dodge ball prepare to be educated.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<iframe allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen" frameborder="0" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/7zy_RPHLOlE" width="420"></iframe>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span id="goog_1098906714"></span><span id="goog_1098906715"></span><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Yeah the quality of that is pretty poor but you get the idea...</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Michelle it is then.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Waking up to a warm august day, mainly due to being hungover and sweating from places I never knew existed, we packed up, showered, ate and got ready, all jumped in the car, turned the ignition and.......</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Nothing.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Balls.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I had always been a bit suspicious of how quickly the car turns over when starting, at first I thought it was just a slow starter motor, or just an old car! But nope, turns out it was the battery, which had held out well until the one day when I really needed it. So there we were, car full of stuff, with four people over an hour away from home. </span></div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">After rather unsuccessfully trying to 'push start it' I walked around the camp-site to ask fellow campers for a hand, and this is where the Capri magic kicks in! The first bloke I walked up to said</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> - "Your the chap with the Capri arn't you? Me and the missis have been talking about it! Lovely car pal!"</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Me - "Errm...yeah! I love it!"</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">- "Yeah had one when I was a lad...I had the 2.8 mind..."</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Me - (trying to still be polite, and bring the man out of his childhood memories) "Yeah they are nice....mines dead though, any chance you have some jumper cables I can borrow?</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Long story short, the bloke didn't. He went the extra mile, tow started me with his own car, and then went for a quick drive with me in it for a trip down memory lane!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I really does blow me over what a little fan club this car has! Here is a picture of the car (when it started!) with the tow rope. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Anyway, this was just a quick ramble to show what I have been up to! The next blog will be about the things that have already gone wrong/ been mended and what is going to happen to it in the upcoming weeks!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

(excited rambling)<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Following on from my last blog, I bought that exact Capri.</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I may possibly be the happiest man alive. That dumb, white, 1980's piece of midlife crisis has actually made me happier than a lot of things can!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">First of all, I think a picture is necessary...</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibXyIReY629jZCn_0Yaw3Assbs2bpwBD6D4MWygT2TXoqkTr933UvopowBp8o53DWSYzFkIlVu9AXJKW4kBoF3xovoivGoIQ81-riMzjN7vkbtSI6lhN1XqJy9KnzqGP0Z_ieqv0Bg2FQ/s1600/DSCF1490.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibXyIReY629jZCn_0Yaw3Assbs2bpwBD6D4MWygT2TXoqkTr933UvopowBp8o53DWSYzFkIlVu9AXJKW4kBoF3xovoivGoIQ81-riMzjN7vkbtSI6lhN1XqJy9KnzqGP0Z_ieqv0Bg2FQ/s400/DSCF1490.JPG" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">You will notice, and its not something I ever really thought about when I was looking at cars, but she is a bit of a land yacht! Its longer than my dad's C class mercedes and bumper to bumper is about the same as a ford mondeo.... yet it only weighs a pinch over a tonne!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">When I went to view it, the first thing I noticed was the rust on the front grill, unfortunately this is from stone chipping that has not been dealt with in quick enough succession, in the pictures this looks quite bad, but its actually just a sand, fill and paint job! Not one panel on the car is rusted more than cosmetically! Which is fantastic! More so because the next thing I am about to tell you is pretty hard to swallow.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">One hundred and forty seven THOUSAND miles. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Near as damn it thats 6 times round the world at the equator!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">THE POOR LITTLE LAND BARGE!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I was told by the owner that the engine is original, and he hasn't done anything to it other than change the oil regularly and knows that the head has been converted to unleaded at some point fairly recently. Having said that the engine isn't a write off, its quite a funny little thing to start, when cold it waddles for a little while making a great deal of fuss as you throttle it and try to get the automatic choke to kick in, but then one cylinder catches and SWEET MOTHER OF ALL THAT IS HOLY IT SOUNDS AMAZING! </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">To sum up the viewing and buying of the car is this:</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1, The body has cosmetic rust, there is no rust whatsoever around the windscreen, underneath, or around the A frames! WINNING! The car is solid, just a little tatty! So I want to correct this before the bloody tin worm infests anywhere else.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2, The drivetrain is good, albeit the engine is a little...used, the gearbox is smooth through all gears, and there are no groans or whines from anywhere in the car. There is a little oil on the bottom of the rear differential but I think that is just a weeping gasket, its something I will check shortly! The brakes are....well it has a peddle in between the clutch and accelerator, I am yet to find a use for it, because it certainly isn't in a rush to slow the car down! A good brake bleed and fluid change is in order me thinks!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">3, The interior is all there, the seats are tatty, but I don't really care! Its an old car and I have seen 04' onwards hatchbacks with worse interiors! I am in no rush to get replacing anything, because everything is pretty tidy except the seats have a little tear here and there, and could do with re-padding. But is completely acceptable for me!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">4, ITS A CAPRI. I know this is not what you should go for a car on, but its a lovely car, the lines are just right on it! And dare I call it...sexy? Ive had it about 24 hours now, and I have had six people come compliment me on it. When filling it with petrol (which is a story in itself!*) I got a wolf whistle! (Or rather the car did!) Its a joy to drive, and once the little niggles are sorted she will be a pleasure to own. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">5, I paid £700 for it. I COULD GET THAT IN RUDDY PARTS FOR IT!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I will keep updating as things are done to her! Anyway, here are a few more pictures of her sitting in the drive. I ate lunch in the garden today, just smiling at it! I really am that sad!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">*The petrol cap was seized on....I don't think its been filled up since 1987!</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>

I knew I shouldn't have wasted money on this car.<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Well here it is! The advert you have always dreamed of!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFh8QgLyuQhUfFwDbYX9TVuxLC-_1k9667ACVZR8TcVu4rV2PJy_PB4FgThOtts7vEfal0lIqAPCKqKpoZ_zoFHCzTlBtf4CWjU_K021HrzZajBVjI8bdQnpVtHRT3gGqgNbgV1zAL0SI/s1600/Autotrader.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="347" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFh8QgLyuQhUfFwDbYX9TVuxLC-_1k9667ACVZR8TcVu4rV2PJy_PB4FgThOtts7vEfal0lIqAPCKqKpoZ_zoFHCzTlBtf4CWjU_K021HrzZajBVjI8bdQnpVtHRT3gGqgNbgV1zAL0SI/s640/Autotrader.jpg" width="640" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Found this little gem after searching ebay, gumtree, practical classics, etc, etc, etc...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">First thing to do, and I hate to say this, but do your homework! Work out which car you want, then work out how much you can spend on buying it, then how much you can spend on running it!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">After deciding that I wanted a MKIII Capri, I also decided to go for either the 1.6 or the 2.0 litre pinto range, rather than the monstrous and thirsty V6's. I want to drive this car quite often, I am also 21, and insurance companies like to wash their hands of anyone wanting to drive a car with more than 100 stallions under the bonnet unless you are of the grey, thinning hair type of people. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So wanting to keep my premiums under £3800 a year (a genuine quote for a 2.8i!), I settled for the 74bhp 1.6, with a nice comfortable premium of just £280 a year, fully comp. Im a happy chappy! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The second thing you need to do, is work out how much work you will to do to the car, now the one you can see in the above picture is the car I am actually going to view tomorrow! I haven't seen it yet, all I have to work on is that auto-trader advert. It seems to be in good condition, minus corrosion on the front valance and grills. From the offset I didn't want a complete restoration job, but a car that was a little tatty, didn't require total restoration, could be driven and was capable of becoming a beauty with my budget. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I have worked out that four things could cost me big with this car</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1, It has done 147,000 miles on the original engine. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2, The front valance looks shot.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">3, It has a tow hook....possible hard life? Caravans?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">4, It has a sports exhaust fitted? Has it been ragged to within an inch of its life?</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">These are the four big questions buzzing round my head at the moment, along with the screaming child saying</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">OHMYGOD,ITSACAPRI!!!,JAMES, GET UP, NOW, GO BUY IT, ITS WHITE, ITS A CAPRI, ITS CHEAP, AND 3 MILES AWAY! </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">DID I MENTION ITS A CAPRI?!?!?!?!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb-6iXLfOppG4cADh6o43oRHRO475-NkimL4sF9Da4K9ySD_MwVTs4sWuXtGchpbBCVXxBJ6KUBYHywycHW9_zBpuQssQO9EkiYKNopC7rvQpr6ZXUk5OVGs8cXuuYEMVgswzEA-mxPIs/s1600/1-P8130589.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhb-6iXLfOppG4cADh6o43oRHRO475-NkimL4sF9Da4K9ySD_MwVTs4sWuXtGchpbBCVXxBJ6KUBYHywycHW9_zBpuQssQO9EkiYKNopC7rvQpr6ZXUk5OVGs8cXuuYEMVgswzEA-mxPIs/s400/1-P8130589.JPG" width="400" /></span></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">After suppressing this, and maybe even a cold shower, I wrote a check-list for when I am viewing the car tomorrow:</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"> This cam about after having a quick look at forums, and general second hand car buying tips.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Yes that is three pages, double sided.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: 'Helvetica Neue', Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Its about an 80 point check, and involves checking electrics, bodywork, suspension, drivetrain and so on...</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I am taking a friend with me who has run and practically re-built his own landrover, so knows a little more about mechanics first hand than me! It is worth taking someone with you anyway, as they help to spot faults that you may not pick up!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Im am actually very excited about tomorrow! But I don't want to buy a lump of **** so next to each of those points on the list, I am going to either put a tick if its ok, or an estimated amount of how much it would cost to put that area/ item right, this amount can then be taken off to the offer price, or added to the budget of the car. Seeing as this is an £800 car anyway, I think I may struggle to take too much off as you can buy un-roadworthy Capri's at this price!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Anyway! Tomorrow I shall get back to you all either with or without a new car!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Wish me luck!</span>Jameshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01274701951706213958noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-890114058382327221.post-34253265112767259862012-08-13T22:35:00.000+01:002012-08-13T22:58:59.241+01:00Oranges and lemons<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Since I was about 4 until 12 years old we lived in the Shetland Islands, which in itself isn't terribly interesting, but bare with me this does go somewhere...</span><br />
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>

<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I was born in Dorchester, Dorset, my whole family comes from either Dorset or Sheffield, and we moved up to the Island of few trees and much wind due to fathers job. This meant one thing, many, many hours of being locked up in the back of a car, trolling from one end of the country to the other. I spent a lot of my childhood in cars, not to mention that my family had a small budget, so all auto repairs were done by my dad, who I watched take apart engines and put them back together with wide eyed 7 year old enthusiasm.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As a horrible side effect and I am totally addicted to cars, to the point where I bore people to near on tears. I always wanted to drive and therefore on my 17th birthday I was out learning ASAP! And now I am at the age where I can afford to buy a stupid stupid lemon of a car.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">So how did I come to the decision of a Capri?</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">My perfect five car garage would consist of:</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">1, 1950's VW Split Screen camper</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">2, Austin Mini cooper (not that daft BMW)</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">3, Ford Capri, MKIII</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">4,1960's VW Beetle</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">5,Triumph Stag</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I am 21. I am as near enough as is socially acceptable, unemployed, and I have only £1000 for a car. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Well Capri it is then! </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I came to this conclusion about two years ago, and have been on and off searching for a Capri ever since... </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">I would like to make this totally clear now, I have never dabbled in the second hand car market, I am no experienced mechanic, I just like cars, and want to bring you through the whole experience of buying, owning, maintaining, certain death due to aforementioned maintenance, and the joy of owning a car you have always dreamt of. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Helvetica Neue, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
